Hyundai Kona: First Electric SUV in India

After major announcements in the Budget 2019 regarding adoption on Electric Vehicles in India (read here), Hyundai has launched its first electric SUV in India and is priced at Rs 25.30 Lakhs.

With an all-electric range of 452 Km in a single charge (ARAI certified), and the running cost said to be 80% lower than a petrol car, the Hyundai Kona offers a peak power of 134.13 bhp and 395 Nm and does 0-100 kmph in 9.7 seconds.

As the car does not have parts that undergo any wear and tear like valves, spark plugs, hoses or even drive belts, like in petrol and diesel cars, its maintenance cost is expected to be zero.

The Kona Electric will be available with a warranty for 3 years and unlimited kilometers, along with a warranty for 8 years and up to 160,000 km for its high voltage battery. It will be provided with two Chargers; a portable one and an AC Wall Box Charger.

The Portable charger can be plugged into any normal 3 Pin 15 Amp socket and can charge this EV, and can top up daily running of 50 Km in less than 3 Hours. The AC Wall Box charger (7.2 kW) can top-up charge the vehicle within 1 hour for running 50 km.

The SUV is priced at Rs 25.30 Lakhs. The selling dealers will support the customer for installing the sockets and also provide charging demo to the customer.
