Australia went back to their winning ways after a slight hiccup against India in the world cups. Their team has looked incredibly solid in the tournament so far. Pakistan has had a rather rocky affair. The match-up between the two sides was entertaining to say the least.
Australia took off like a jet after being put to bat first by Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. They set up a 146 run first wicket partnership. They were set to score a massive total judging by the way they started. A 400+ score seemed on the cards. But the clinical 5/30 bowling performance of Mohammad Amir restricted them to an achievable 307.
Pakistan came in with the mind-set to build partnerships, and that they did. Only worry was that no batsman really stuck around for long. 6 batsmen scored 30 plus runs but no one produced a mammoth innings to see them through. All the Australian bowlers did well as they shut Pakistan off at 266.
This was the 2nd match in world cup 2019 where all 20 wickets were taken. The match was competitive. For a large part, Pakistan looked likely to win, but Australia were too destructive to let that happen.
David Warner was the man of the match for his 107 run innings. Mohammad Amir now has the best bowling record and most number of wickets in ICC World Cup 2019.
Australia are at 2nd place in the group table while Pakistan lag behind at 8th position. It will be exciting to see how they fare by the end of the group stage.
